God's Story: The Beginning of Everything.

Introduction

Every story has a beginning, and the greatest story ever told begins in the very first pages of Scripture. Genesis chapters 1–3 reveal the foundations of a Theistic Worldview, a way of seeing life through the truth that God is Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of all things.

These chapters are not just ancient history; they are the foundation for how we understand life, purpose, and relationship with God. When individuals and societies begin to live by the truths found here, life starts to make sense again. Confusion gives way to clarity, foolish choices fade, and a blessed life begins to grow.

The Background: God’s Story, Not Ours

This is God’s story, about Himself and His creation. It’s not a myth or a human invention. God revealed His story to Moses about 4,000 years ago, and Moses wrote it down so it could be shared with the world.

This story tells us where we came from, why we exist, and what went wrong. Most importantly, it shows us that God has always had a plan to restore what was lost.

Before anything existed, before time, space, or matter, God was. Out of nothing, He spoke the universe into being. Every star, every ocean, every living creature came from His word and His will. Everything He made was good.

The Story

1. God the Creator of the World

In six days, God shaped the heavens and the earth:

  • Day 1: God created light and separated it from darkness, day and night.

  • Day 2: He formed the sky and divided the waters above from the waters below.

  • Day 3: He gathered the waters so dry land appeared and filled the earth with plants and trees.

  • Day 4: He created the sun, moon, and stars to mark time and seasons.

  • Day 5: He filled the seas with fish and the skies with birds.

  • Day 6: He created animals on the land, and finally, His masterpiece: mankind.

At the end of each day, God looked at what He made and said, “It is good.”

2. God Created Man in His Own Image

On the sixth day, God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life. Humanity was made in God’s image, able to think, reason, love, and choose. Unlike any other creature, humans reflect God’s nature and are designed for relationship with Him.

3. God Made Man a Steward of His Creation

God gave Adam and Eve purpose: to rule over the earth, care for creation, and multiply. They were to cultivate the garden, bringing order and fruitfulness to the world. On the seventh day, God rested and made that day holy.

God placed the first humans in the Garden of Eden, a paradise filled with beauty and provision. In the center of the garden stood two trees: the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. From every other tree they could freely eat, but from that one tree, God warned them not to.

4. God Communicates and Relates to Man

God walked with Adam and Eve. Their relationship was perfect, no sin, no shame, no fear. Adam named the animals, but none were a suitable companion, so God created woman from Adam’s rib. She was his equal, his partner, his friend. They were naked and unashamed, living in harmony with God and creation.

5. Disobedience Destroys the Relationship

Then came the serpent. Cunning and deceptive, he questioned God’s word and tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. She ate, and so did Adam. In that moment, their eyes were opened to shame, guilt, and fear.

They tried to cover themselves and hid from God, but sin had already broken everything. God called out, “Adam, where are you?”, a question that echoes still today.

Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the serpent, and the perfect peace of Eden was shattered. God pronounced judgment, yet even in His grief, He made a promise: one day, a Savior would come to crush the serpent and restore creation.

6. God Promises to Send Help

Though sin brought death, pain, and separation, God’s love remained. He clothed Adam and Eve with garments made from animal skins, foreshadowing the sacrifice that would one day cover all sin. Then He sent them out from the garden, guarding the Tree of Life with angels.

From that day forward, all creation has lived under the shadow of sin. Yet God’s promise still stands, He will send help. Through Jesus Christ, that promise has been fulfilled.

Things Can Be Different

Even though sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, God’s desire is still the same:

  1. God wants to save us from sin and restore our relationship with Him.

  2. God wants to teach us how to overcome brokenness—in ourselves, our relationships, and our world.

  3. God wants us to live fully, walking in joy, peace, and purpose.

Like Adam and Eve, we must choose. Will we trust God’s way—or our own? When we surrender and follow Him, we find the life we were made for.

Living the Story Today

If we do good but never share why—if we live kindly but stay silent about the truth—people may admire our actions but never meet the God behind them. Our good works must always be joined by presence, words, and power.

  • Presence: We show up and live among people.

  • Words: We explain why we do what we do—because of Jesus.

  • Power: We rely on the Holy Spirit to confirm truth with real transformation.

Together, these bring a powerful witness to the goodness and grace of God.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”Matthew 5:16
“Our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit.”1 Thessalonians 1:5

God’s story began in a garden, but it continues in you.You were made for His presence, shaped by His word, and empowered by His Spirit. The same God who created the world is still writing His story through those who follow Him.
